After placing an order online and getting an account number, how long does it take before you can pick up the sim card?

Good morning @swampcritter , as @Cawtau mentioned, wifi calling is considered using your regular carrier services the same as a cellular service. Having said that, my blackberry KeyOne works just fine using wifi calling with Fido. My KeyOne was a Rogers purchase, so that could be why it works. However, having said that, I did put a telus Sim card in my BB and wifi calling worked. So, depending on the original carrier of your device (North American or other) and the plan you have (propaid or postpaid) , your ability to get wifi calling on your Key2 could be unable to happen. I would definitely call customer service, as @Cawtau suggested to you to have the conversation. Here's hoping you are able to get it to work on your device. Cheers

Thanks, I will call customer service. I bought my KEY2 outright, did not finance it through a carrier. It seemed to work on Telus. At any rate, I never got any notifications saying Wifi Calling was not available . I'm wondering how important Wifi Calling actually is. I have not had any real problem making calls since I got on Fido a week ago, though it is a bit annoying to keep getting "Wifi Calling Not Ready" notifications.

Good morning @swampcritter , wifi calling is a good feature if you live somewhere with spotty signal in your home. I live in a coastal forest and sometimes the signal isn't the best amongst 50 foot trees. What do have set as a preference in your calling settings? If you have cellular preferred, your device may not need to switch to wifi for calling. You could try switching to wifi preferred and see if you get prompts to re enter your 911 address and see if you get further information regarding wifi calling. I recall trying to connect a few times before it worked. I think customer service helped at one point. After getting it to work, I have my calling preference set to cellular unless I'm not in a place where I have a strong cellular, then I set it to wifi preferred. You could leave it on wifi preferred and it switches between the two as required. Good luck, I bet you will get it to work 😉

Hi, thanks for the reply. I had the phone set to "Wifi preferred" but every time I made a call I would get a notification that "wifi calling is not ready." So I set the preference to cellular. I figure there is no point in setting the preference to a feature that is not supported on my phone. According to the Fido support pages, "If you have a non-Fido Android device (e.g., you did not buy your device from Fido), Wi-Fi Calling will not work."

It turned out that they just mis-handled the order. I did get the sim card, they put it in my phone, and now I find out that Wifi Calling is not available for my particular device.

Hey @swampcritter! We're glad to read that you were able to your new SIM card. As for Wi-Fi calling, feel free to contact us so we can review the situation.

When I try to register my phone with fido for wifi calling, I get a message that my phone is not eligible fo r wifi calling. Also, my device does not show up in the list of compatible Fido devices:

Seems clear to me.

I'm using a Blackberry KEY2. It's on the Telus Wifi Calling list, but not on the Fido list. My understanding, though, is that even if the phone is on the Fido list, its still has to be a Fido phone. Am I right?

Hello Swampcritter,
Welcome to the community!
Generally, devices not purchased nor available from Fido won't likely be supported for certain functions, like voLTE and Wifi-calling. However, Fido has allowed certain grey-market (ie Canadian version of devices carried by Fido but purchased elsewhere) to use the service. Those included Samsung Galaxy S8 and above (see here).
That said, I'm not sure whether Fido ever carried the Blackberry KEY2 (see here). If Fido did not carry the device, then it would not be considered a grey-market device. If that is the case, that could explain why you're received that message.
What plan do you have? You should note that some plans are not compatible with that service (see here). If you do have a compatible plan and it still does not work, I think it would be likely that device is not supported for Wifi-calling on Fido.
If you do eventually get Wifi-calling to work with that device (or you get a different compatible phone), it worth mentioning that there seems to be some misunderstanding regarding Wifi-calling. I'm not sure how people have gotten the impression that Wifi-calling does not use the networks. However, that is not true. While the calls and messages do not transmit via cellular towers, they still use the networks via the internet gateway (see image here). The cellular towers and Wifi are merely alternate means of accessing the networks. Calls and messages would not be able to complete or get sent/received without the networks. As such, using Wifi-calling is technically using Fido services. Therefore, calls and messages will be taken from your plan allotment. In addition, some Wifi-calling usage outside of Canada is considered roaming and will incur roaming charges.
If you wished, you might consider contacting customer service to request verification. In addition, they can also be contacted via Live Chat, Facebook, or Twitter. Those methods can be accessed via the contact page posted above.
Hope this helps 😀
Cheers

Hello @swampcritter,
Welcome to the community!
If you placed the order online the SIM card will be mailed to you and it can take between 2-5 business days but depending on your location and logistics it can come the next day.
October 2022
I selected the "pick up in store" option not the "mail" option. The store is supposed to email me to let me know when I can pick up the sim card. I have heard nothing from them after 5 days.

Hello again @swampcritter,
I didn't know they had the option to pick up in the store I would suggest you call the store and double-check that they have it in stock then you can go pick it up I would safely say having SIM cards in stock is almost certain that's why you did not get any notification it's ready for you to go pick it up.
