Text from +4745 instead of +4735, but extra data has not been added.

I've been a Fido customer in British Columbia for ~20 years now and have multiple plans with them. In the past, I have received loyalty offers from Fido (+4735) for a free 10GB and another for a free 5 GB of data, which has put me at 20GB of data from my original 5GB plan.

6 days ago I received this text message from +4745 (not +4735) saying that I would get an additional 5 GB per month, which would put me at 30gb of data. However, no changes were made to the account, even after my billing cycle changed to this and 5 extra GB does not put me at 30GB, it puts me at 25GB.

I've talked to virtual chat two times and they are completely unhelpful - all they do confirm is my existing plan and any offers I have (which I need to pay for). I don't care too much about not getting the extra data, but I want to get to the bottom of this though.

So is this a scam text? If it is I don't know how they would have gotten my name. I also don't know what the scammers would would get from sending me this text message, other than causing a bit of chaos. Is the text number +4745 coming from a specialized department? Why does no Fido specialist know about the text or anything related to it?

Confirmed for Feb 2024, I also got a text from +4745 offering an extra 10gb/month for every month. It just told me to sign into my account to activate the gift with a sign-in link included in the text msg but I didn't click on it, I went to sign up manually on my computer instead. Activated the gift, so the +4745 must be legit.

Hello Miumiumiu,

  Welcome to the community!

Glad you were able to avail of the bonus data gift! Yes, as mentioned below, both numbers +4745 and +4735 are used for their promotions.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

I checked the short code 4745 on a Short Code lookup site, and 4745 is not registered to Fido (or anyone). The lookup site is https://www.txt.ca/en/current-short-code-programs/

Fido uses several different short codes for various messages it sends that are listed as registered to Fido (e.g, 89001, 93995). So if Fido intends to use 4745, they should register it, otherwise it seems suspicious.

So any updates from Fido support?  I just got the sMe text but for 20 GB extra.

I chatted with Fido Support using Fido App.  They confirmed the message was legitimate.  I followed the link and instructions.

Hello @JasonChiang,

Thank you for your many years with us & the details you've provided!

Has your previous 5GB bonus expired, or is about to?

The message seems to be legitimate given that the shared link of our page is valid. We will still need to double-check though as it does indeed not make 30GB!

We would need to take a closer look at your account to have a better understanding. You can message on Facebook or twitter. Smiley

This should be a simple question to answer. Do messages coming from 4745 on my phone come from Fido?

I don't usually click a link from a text so I looked on my phones Fido app and there was nothing. Is clicking on a suspicious link the only way I can get this supposed deal?

The short code 4745 is not registered to Fido (or anyone) on https://www.txt.ca/en/current-short-code-programs/

So it looks suspicious even when they say it's legit.

Hi! I received a similar message from 4745 recently. Did you finally figure it out?

Hey @JasonChiang, @SRankHero, @JohnJamesL, @Rasleen

To answer your main question, yes these messages are indeed from Fido. The numbers +4745 and+4735 are both used on our end for specific promotions.

When in doubt about the validity of any offer or promotion you've received, you can always access your account on Fido.ca to confirm or contact us on these channels. One of our agents will be happy to confirm Smiley

In regard to this particular offer, please note that it gives you a total of 30 GB bonus split over 6 months. In other words, you'd be getting a 5 GB bonus for the following 6 months.

This also means that if your plan includes 20 GB, you'll be up to 25 GB for the next 6 month (not 30 GB, as you only get bumped up 5 GB monthly).

Hope this helps!

Hello @FidoSaad ,

I was in call with one of your represntative to get help but unfortunately she could help except saying it a spam. I got a text as well from 4745 which says a welcome 150$ gift i.e. 10$ bill credits every month. Please see to it and advise.

Thank you

Vijay

I'm sorry to hear that, our agents should be able to confirm these offers or promotions using their tools!

You can also usually see such offers appear in your online account so you can easily accept them.
