Billed for calls never made or rec'd

I got a bill for $100 extra for calls make and rec'd from a phone number I don't know and know for a fact I've never called nor answered from.

The billing period, dates, and times do not show up on my phone log, nor do they match up with my actual activities at those times.

How can something like this happen?

Were you by any chance travelling? If so, the different time zone can explain why the times don't match.

Also, were the calls to numbers you recognise or to numbers you don't know?
