Unlock a new iPhone

I have a new iPhone SE 64gig still in original package, unopened.  Last spring, I updated my account, received this new phone, however I continued to use the SE I had been using for over a year.

With the new plan I also purchased insurance, so I don't think I need to rely on this phone in the box.  Time to sell it before its value drops too low.

Is it necessary to have a sim card in the phone prior to unlocking?

Will an unlock code be specific to an individual IMEI?

If I sell it as is (ie: in its sealed package) must the purchaser acquire a Fido sim card to unlock it?

Why are the complete steps to follow not shown in totality?

Do you foresee any other stumbling blocks that may arise?

Hey there Bobbynosticks!

Welcome to the community. Smiley

You don't need to have a sim card in the iPhone in order for the unlocking to work. You simply need to provide the IMEI to a Fido rep and they will unlock it for you.

What you do need to do is to restore the iPhone fully through iTunes for the unlock to be effective. If you don't do it yourself before selling, the buyer will need to do it themselves after purchase, otherwise the phone will remain locked.

Check out our step-by-step on how to proceed if you're not familiar with the restore process.
