Hey Community!

Since voicemail has been the top searched word over the past 5 years, we thought it would be a good idea to blog about it. So without further ado, here’s a list of frequently asked questions we put together for you:

What is the voicemail number?

Regular voicemail: +1 416 821-6549

Visual voicemail for iPhones : +1 647 839-6178

Don’t worry about the area code being different than your own; these two numbers apply to all Fido customers across Canada.

How do I register my voicemail number in my phone?

If you bought your phone from Fido your voicemail number is already registered on your phone and you don’t need to change anything.

If you didn’t buy your phone from Fido, proceed as follows:

  • iPhone: Dial *5005*86*+16478396178# (may not work on all iPhone models).

This is for customers without Visual Voicemail:

  • Android: Go to Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail Settings > Voicemail Number and input +14168216549 (instructions may varies depending on your OS/model)
  • Wireless Home Phone: Dial *983*866*(Voicemail Retrieval Number)# from the home phone handset.
  • Other Phones: instructions may vary, so it’s best you check out the manufacturer’s user guide to program your voicemail.

What is my access code?

You are prompted to choose your own code when you first access your voicemail.

I forgot my access code

No problem, follow these easy steps to reset it.

How do I listen to my messages?

You have two ways of going about that:

From your Fido phone:

  • Press and hold the "1" key on your phone for a few seconds to access your Voice Messaging service.
  • Enter your access code when prompted.
  • Follow the instructions to listen to your messages.

From any other phone:

  • Call your own Fido phone number.
  • Press the "#" key during your greeting message.
  • Enter your access code when prompted.
  • Follow the instructions to listen to your messages

Why do I get a +18 message when I have a voicemail?

The +18 text message is a notification to let you know that  someone has left you a voicemail message. There is no way to turn this notification off (in case you were wondering).

Why do my calls go straight to voicemail?

Calls are automatically forwarded to voicemail when your phone is off, on airplane mode, Do Not Disturb mode, or when you’re outside of the coverage area (no service).

How do I bypass the voice signature recording during the setup?

It’s unfortunately not possible; that step can no longer be skipped. Also, once you record the voice signature, it can’t be deleted afterwards.

We hope that’s everything, but if we missed something, go ahead and post your question in the comments and we’ll get the answer for you : )

Cheers and happy voicemail awareness day! (not an official holiday, we just made that up)

I recently subscribed to Fido Home phone service on my previous (non-Fido) home phone and ZTE Voice Mail access device. It works great except that when someone leaves me a voice message, I don't get any notification that there's a message for me - no blinking light or anything - but, if I happen to check and hear the message, then the light does blink after I hang up until I delete the message. Is there any way of getting an automatic notification on the phone device so I will know to check?  Thanks.

Hey @Glenys and thank you for using the Community Smiley

Have you tried to reboot your modem to see if you still have the same issue?

Hey Juliakbm!

Welcome to the Community!

Which voicemail do you have? Is it the mini voicemail or voicemail-to-text or visual voicemail?
