Hello

I just recently ordered the Pixel 5, and I wanted to give my older Pixel 3XL to my mother, but her phone is on a different network.

The 3XL was due to be paid off in February of next year, I dont know if that has anything to do with it??

If anyone could assist me on how to go about unlocking the 3XL, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

Sangeet

Hello Sangeet29,

  Welcome to the community!

As of December 1, 2017, all devices sold by mobile providers are unlocked as per the Wireless Code (see here). Since your Pixel 3XL is still under contract, its purchase would have been since the that change and therefore not locked. Your mother should be able to use the device with her provider. However, she may need to get a new SIM from her provider if the device requires a different-sized SIM from her old phone.

Since you are under contract for that device, you will need to continue with that contract until the device has been paid-off. If you financed your new Pixel 5, you would have had to pay-off your Pixel 3XL before entering a new contract.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
