Do not order devices/phones from Fido

My phone broke suddenly and I needed a new one quickly as I rely on it for a lot. I saw Fido was offering a good deal online on the Pixel 7 pre-owned and promised it'd take about a week to come in. I luckily was able to borrow a phone in the meantime and could make do until then.

It's now been over 5 weeks and nothing. I've called in several times and everytime the best Fido can say is "We don't know when it will be in". Today I called in and found out from their support specialist that it's possible I might not even receive the phone at all. He mentioned it was possible at the time I ordered that phone, Fido's site didn't update with the stock so the timeline they promised was off, which not only is it unacceptable for the alternative to be a 5+ week waiting period with a possibility of nothing, but that doesn't explain why my device was immediately put on backorder after it was submitted.

I've tried asking if it'd be possible to just pick up a phone at one of their locations for the same plan they promised me - I would be willing to pay for the activation fee. They said it wasn't possible. I have an account of over 10 years now with Fido and this is what I get. Anyone who's considering switching to Fido for these enticing hardware orders, don't. They don't actually offer it.

This is not a one-off situation. Search other threads on this forum or Google it. Fido has been doing this for awhile.

Hi @1386,

Thank you for your feedback.. i think am in the same situation and i'm about to switch to a different carrier. I have been with fido for the last 12 - 13 years and very disappointed in the way they handle things. I have ordered a Samsung Zflip 6 and to get the new phone i had to switch to a more expensive plan.. so now i'm paying for the new plan without the phone.

Talked to different fido customer service guys saying they just receive new stocks and same day i receive an email saying my order is delayed for another 4 -5 weeks.

So i'm seriously considering cutting my two lines with fido and go with Bell since i'm traveling in two weeks.

Hello Skywalker34,

  Welcome to the community!

I understand the frustration of having your new phone delayed. However, your situation is vastly different than that of the OP's. The OP ordered a pre-owned device. Unfortunately for them, the stock of pre-owned devices is limited and unpredictable. That's why customer service were not able to provide a definitive timeline and mentioned the possibility of not getting the phone at all.

On the other hand, the device you ordered has just been released. Samsung will continue to manufacturer those devices for at least a few years. Unfortunately, newly released devices are quite popular and can become back-ordered quickly. Even though they might not currently have any stock of those devices, They will receive more stock in the near future.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

I've spoken to about 3-4 different people from different departments from Fido already and all it did was tell me there nothing else to do if I wanted the deal that I was promised. Speaking to anyone else would just waste more of my time.

For anyone wondering, I've since left Fido and went to another carrier where I actually got a new phone.

Hey @1386,

We're sorry to hear about your experience.

As @Original_Lucy mentioned, devices that are in high demand may run out fast.

We'll be happy however to review your options, please contact us here and we'll be happy to help.

Hey @1386 , I'm sorry that happened to you. I didn't have that experience when I ordered mine last fall. I had my s23 within 10 days. However,  some devices are very popular and stock is depleted very quickly. I agree that notification should be given that it's out of stock and unknown if it will be replenished. An unfortunate occurrence for sure
