Roaming charges and texting

I'm looking into purchasing an Add-on of travel/text when I go to the U.S. for the weekend.  The package has 40 minutes of roaming, and 100 texts. 

If I leave my phone on am I charged the roaming minutes?  Or are the 40 min roaming minutes for actual phone calls?  Am I charged roaming when texting?

You will be charged for calling minutes only when you place a call, no calls made = no roaming charged.
You will be charged for roaming as soon as you press 'call' on your phone, including those 'ring ring' which no one has picked up the phone yet. You will also be charged by the minute, so if you hang up after 5 secs with 2 'ring ring's that is 1 minute of roaming.
If you text it will not count towards your 40mins, but will count towards your 100 texts.

I don't know what kind of phone you owe. but if your roaming is not business related and your friends are tech savvy, why not consider the new $7.99/50MB data? use it well and it will equate to much more than 100texts and 40mins roaming.
