I recently upgraded my plan to include data (just had cell service before). We assumed the data plan would automatically start working after a few days but we cannot figure out how to activate the data plan?

Yes we turned data on on the phone and it doesn't seem to do anything different than before. I would like a phone number where we can call in for assistance but cannot find one.

I'd like you to try one more thing though. Can you make sure you have the right APN settings? You'd need them if you have an unlocked phone. You can check them out here.
I'd also suggest resetting your network settings.

Did you make sure your mobile data option was enabled on your phone?
Once you add data to your plan you should be able to use it from the get-go.
