Hi, I'm looking on buying the Xiaomi Mi Mix (releasing friday nov 4th).

I've researched gsmarena for the phone specs in terms of connectivity. Here they are:

2G bands: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2

3G bands: HSDPA 850/900/1900/2100

4G bands: LTE Band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 38(2600), 39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)

I seem to be okay with the 2G band (call and sms right?) 3G is okay? (is this internet accessible?), and 4G LTE I'm missing band 17(700).

So since i'm covered(ish), what can I expect in terms of "functionality?

I live in Montreal and rarely tend to go further then 100km from town (If this info can help).

**Edited to add label

Wow... You blew my mind with all that new info on towers and band range. As to the phone, I am aware of the risk of damage. Thank god they have a leather case included in the box. But I am still looking for a phone, atleast, very powerful. But I got the answer I was looking for and looking on the tower map, I should survive with the data. Thanks a mill for the info Cawtau

Hello TheMLGDoge,

  Welcome to the community!

Juding by those specifications, you are correct and the phone would have all of the compatible bands/frequencies for 2G and '3G'. Both 2G and '3G' are capable of calls, SMS/MMS, and internet -- albeit the 2G network would be rather slow for internet.

With regards to LTE, again you are correct in that the phone would have two of the compatible bands/frequencies. Band 4 -- which the phone has -- is regarded as the backbone of the LTE network. Bands 7 and 17 (followed by band 12) were deployed as additional bandwidth. The main benefit of bands 12 and/or 17 (700 MHz) is their greater range and penetrability (see here).

Functionally, access to the LTE network depends on the bands/frequencies of your surrounding towers. Not all bands/frequencies are available from all towers. You can get an idea of your area towers here. Additionally, an area more densely constructed with buildings might benefit from 700 MHz.

**edit** The phone has some pretty nice specifications! However, had you heard that it might be a little fragile (see here)?**

Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers
