So I bought a Note 8 from the Samsung store in Canada. Everything works great. Got my fido sim in and it registered along with installed all the beautiful Fido bloatware. I set up the Wifi calling and registered my information for the 911 assistance and then when it comes time to use wifi calling it doesnt work. Anyone else had this issue? it just goes to the cellular network although the option for Wifi preffered is selected and the Wifi connection is strong and present.

Hello @Afternoon,
Welcome to the community!
Fido does not carry the Galaxy Note 8 so it won't be supported thats the first reason the second would be you would need to get the phone from Fido in order to get the WiFi calling feature to work.
Eve if a phone supports WiFi calling and its a phone that Fido sells if you did not purchase the phone from Fido features like WiFi calling and VoLTE will not work.

fido does carry note 8. does this mean it will automatically have wifi option?

Hey @JunaidNur,
Welcome to our Community
Yes, it will. The WiFi calling option is available on all postpaid Voice and Data plans with an eligible device.
Check out more info here.

This is frustarting and doesnt make any sense. Phone is unlocked and sold by Samsung to work on all Canadian networks (unlocked) When inserting SIM fido downloads all its bloatware and locks the phone to its network, updates the devices to add its own features and then doesn't allow me to use WIFI calling when they let me register to the system and tell me its activated on my phone?

I understand your frustration, all Canadian Samsung phones does that when you insert the SIM for the first time.
The phone will work on the Fido network but for features to work like WiFi calling and VoLTE it needs to be purchased from Fido thats because the IMEI number will be in Fido's database and that is how those features gets enabled to work on your phone.

Please verify your facts before spreading wrong information, like that.

Please tell me what is incorrect about the statement. As far as I can tell it is completely correct.

Hello Grreaghb,
Did you happen to read the solution for this thread? The OP was able to get Wifi-calling to work on their Note 8 purchased from a Samsung store (ie not from Fido).
I understand you believe that Fido/Rogers are actively preventing devices not purchased from them access to certain functions. They are not. They are trying to resolve that particular issue. It may just take some time.
Cheers

I actually got it to work. I just called Fido. They made sure that my IMEI was registered to their network and unlocked the features. It does take 24-48 hours for it to register but wifi calling is working.
If anyone has the same issue I'd be more than happy to help

I have the same issue. What exactly did you tell them on the phone?
I've been getting the run around for 5 consecutive days on the phone with them. I've purchased my handset from Samsung Canada as well.

Hello Kenny,
I ahve recently joined Fido with unlocked Samsung Note 8 from Samsung Canada. My Volte service is working & have wifi calling option available on phone.I chatted with agent & she activated wifi calling in my account.
When I tried to activate wifi calling ,it directly go for fido help page .no address verification. So can you help to whitelist my Phone IMEI as per forum.
Thanks.

Hey @tivaria, Alex here!
I see that you're experiencing a similar situation as other users in this thread. No worries, our customer service will be able to add the IMEI of your new device to our system and that will allow you to start using the WiFi calling feature.
Feel free to get in touch with us through any of our channels here.

Sure thing! As far as getting the solution to this issue you need to contact the technical support at Fido. Its not an issue that customer service will be able to resolve. They'll have to verify that your IMEI is registered on their network so you can access their network for Wifi calling. From there you'll just have to turn it on on your phone and set it up.
Hope it helps!

Whatt?? Lol it's really not that easy. A lot of people have tried that and get turned down because their phones "were not directly purchased from Fido" so I don't think what you provided is a valid solution. I don't think tech support just activates it for you on demand. As posted here so many times before, there's a lot more politics involved. As soon as I gave my new non-Fido phone IMEI to Fido reps back then, my IMS services (VoLTE and Wifi calling) got disabled.
Where did you get the impression that they'll make it work if you contact them and ask?
November 2018
if they will be friendly...they could unlock this feature right away.....i have deal with this last spring!! the technical agent have take my imei number but told me that "maybe" it could not work...the true is that he have take my imei but he never put it in his rollyeses system because of their socialist politic of fido/rogers...after speaking to another technical agent...this one told me the true that only fido/rogers phone are authorized to have these feature....
they prefere to punish and lose subscriber..(many in fact) instead of giving full satisfaction to them....
in my case it has been solved when i changed provider.....

Hey @Zxaz,
We definitely want to do all we can to help our customers with all of our services.
For this particular feature, if you have a non-Fido device and no conflicting services, Wi-Fi Calling may work, but we can’t guarantee at 100% that the feature will work for non-Fido phones.
I hope this helps to clarify a little.

No Pierre. No. It doesn't help in the slightest bit. Your pre-programmed same message we've all heard thousands of times does not clarify anything. This is an electronic device, there's no "may work", it either does or it doesn't. You're relying on some sort of wizardry or something when you say it "may work"? If the phone has *everything* a similar Fido-purchased phone has and is indistinguishable from it, the only reason it still doesn't work is because Fido blocks the access. That's it, there's no it may, maybe, or anything else to it. Please take that invalid answer back to your supervisors for re-evaluation because we're due for a real explanation already.
