Hello, everyone.

I want to get a cheap iphone 6s for my daughter, she wants a small screen phone, i found it is easy to get one from ebay, but some of them are marked as "locked to Fido, roger, AT&T, etc".

If i get one iphone which is locked to Fido, can i use it? I am using fido service for many years, and my daughter also has fido service for many years. I think i should be able to use that phone because i am in fido, the phone is in fido. is that correct? Or i have to unlock? And how?

Hello @david315,

Welcome to the community!

If you get one that is locked to Fido or Rogers then it will definitely work with Fido.

As of December 1-2017, CRTC made it so that all devices should be unlocked so all new devices come unlocked since the iPhone 6s was launched in 2015 that's why it is locked it will still work without any issues but you can always request Fido to unlock the device for you and they will assist you with that but the device has to be a Fido device and not a device from another carrier.

thanks for your information. I contacted with fido customer service, she/he said i am not the first owner of the iphone, so can not help to unlock.

Many people said just like what you said.

I do not know why fido customer serivce did the other way.

did any other people have this issue? how to solve this problem?

Hey @david315! In order to unlock a device, you must meet both device requirements and account requirements: the device must be a Fido device and it must be linked to your Fido account.

We hope this clarifies.

Thanks for your answer. Now i just want to add this iphone to my account, so i can use it, i do not have to unlock it becuase i still want to stay in Fido.

Hello David315,

  Welcome to the community!

Unless the device was reported as stolen and its IMEI number blacklisted, you should be able to insert your daughter's SIM card into the phone and it should be ready for use. What phone did your daughter have previously? If she currently has an iPhone, there may be additional steps to add the phone to her AppleID etc. However, the usual phone services should work with her SIM card in the new phone.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

Thanks, she had moto G4 play from Rogers, but she has fido serice now with moto G4 play which is working both rogers and fido. I tried her fido sim card, not working, I checked IMEI onlin, it said "locked to Rogers", i guess that might the reason fido sim card is not working on this iphone 6s.

But the question is fido is one of Rogers branches, why it is not working.

Hey david315, Alex here!

While Rogers is indeed our parent company, if a device is locked to their network, it will still need to be unlocked before it can be used with our services.
