Is there anyway online to view your current useage - not the last billed, but the current billing period. It shows that I am over in my minutes, but I want to see the details and the extra costs being incurred.

You can see your usage via your fido.ca account, the application or by dialing *3337 from your phone. However, the usage shown does not include the details. That would appear on your invoice, when published.
The overage is billed according to your plan's overage rates.
