Getting a 250 dollar refund from fido. Is this a scam?

+1 (825) 255-6277 this number just texted me with a link so I can receive a refund from fido, but for that I need to input my credit card number and password. I did receive a text a few weeks ago from another number saying I was going to be given a refund because of overcharges along with other fido clients.

Hello Izabvla,

  Welcome to the community!

You're right to be suspicious. Those messages are most definitely SPAM. The providers are doing all that they can to prevent SPAM SMS. You can help by forwarding these messages to 7726 (SPAM) (see here). Once audited, it will be used to augment the SPAM filter. Unfortunately, as fast as these messages get blocked by the SPAM filter, the spammers/scammers find new ways to bypass the filter.

A couple of tell-tale signs the message is SPAM. Firstly, Fido won't refund by sending etransfers or request credit card information via email or text message link. If you are indeed overcharged, Fido will simply credit your account.

In addition, if Fido does send legitimate SMS, it will come from one of their short codes, not a phone number. Admittedly, since spoofing is so wide-spread, it's possible the spammers/scammers could eventually learn to spoof those codes as well.

Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers

I also received a text telling me to click a link to claim a refund for overcharges to my phone, they sent it to me twice today.

Hey @FP2,

Welcome on the Community!

It's certainly a SCAM message phishing around for vulnerable people. I assure you we do not communicate financial informations via text messages.

You can follow the steps provided in @Cawtau's solution.
