I called fido to make enquiries about the Google pixel 6 and 6a,wanted to know the difference and make up my mind on what to do,2 days later I see a hard enquiry on my credit report,I called in to ask why? I was kept from speaking with a supervisor for 1h4mins and the line went off, eventually I got an Indian lady who said she was a manager, and she said because I checked in my fido app options to upgrade my phone it check my credit score, please how is that possible? And she did insult me on the phone.....I want to know if that's possible before I take legal actions on her attitude and against Fido, been using them for 5 years plus now.

It's becoming a trend and it has to stop especially in these times when it's hard to build a good credit,I am sure they are trying to upsell and trap people with these actions!!!

Hey @ify110576 &  @Shima-khn Smiley

To clarify, a credit evaluation is necessary when activating a new line/service or when upgrading the phone.

It's also often required to run an internal credit check for existing customers, to see what type of financing they are eligible to.

That said, you should definitely be made aware of this before it happens!

If you'd like us to look into your account and/or share feedback about an interaction you had with customer service, don't hesitate to reach out here

I made enquiries about upgrades on a particular device, not asking for an upgrade for the device, these are two different things entirely

Hey @ify110576, Alex here.

You certainly shouldn't be subject to a credit check if you're simply inquiring about an upgrade and not actually going through the upgrade process. I'm really sorry to hear about your experience, that's not how we want things to go for any of our customers.

Our customer service remains available through all the channels here if you would like to go over what happened.

Enquiries are not enough to warrant a credit check,I have since moved on to get a better deal from mobileshop without my credit score being checked and a better mobile phone with enormous PC points, but I'm still going to report that incident to whatever authority handles the situation, total gross misconduct!

Hi,

Since I am looking for a fair deal with this phone, I've asked other providers' customer service about it as well. I'm not their existing customer, but they gave me information about their available offers.
It's only happened with Fido to me. I'm wondering, while I've been your customer for almost four years, this offer is available in my account, and I can see this, without any credit check, how isn't Fido's expert capable of doing it?!!!
I told him I was aware of this offer in my account and asked him if there was any other offer. When this is Fido's only offer on this phone, why does someone who should be an expert do this stupid action?!

Even the last time I upgraded my phone to Note10+ without asking your expert and only did it online by myself, Fido didn't do any credit check. But now I've just asked a question (not upgrading!); he did a hard credit check without authority. He should let me know before taking any action!

Who's responsible for this? This credit check should be removed from my inquiries.

Today it happened to me as well! I just asked the specialist via online chat if Fido has offer for Galexy S22 Ultra, and he wanted me to give him my name, DOB, postal code and phone number. Now, I got that Fido has checked  my credit score without authorization. A new inquiry as "fido solution" has caused my credit score down! I'm not a new customer. I only needed some info about Fido's deal to compare with other providers on this phone to decide which one works for me. How can I remove this inquiry?! It's not a legal process and he should let me know before take any action.
