Got email "Your Fido Home Internet modem will no longer provide services after May 6, 2024"

A few days ago I received a strange email from Fido. The sender's email address looks legit: Fido@e.fido.ca

The email states, that my Fido Home Internet modem will no longer provide services after May 6, 2024, and I have to contact them for the modem replacement. A new modem comes from Rogers free of charge (Rogers Ignite Internet modem).

They say if no action is taken, my Fido internet will be disconnected on May 9, 2024.

They ask me to call this number: 1-877-331-9209.

In the past, I got many scam calls from "Rogers representatives", so now I am suspicious.

Did you receive such an email? What should I do?

Hi. Is it possible to post the email.

I deleted mine by mistake. Mine said two years same price as paying now. Went into a Rogers/Fido store. Just denied and such email. Wanted to sign me up at twice the price.

Thanks

Do I need to return the fido modem? Very confused

Hey @zzzzzzzzzz4158! Your old modem can simply be recycled. It will no longer work on June 2nd 2024. We hope this clarifies. 🙂

I got the same message and called the number. It's legit BUT they will force you to take the Ignite TV service as well. I told the rep that I do not want the TV service, but there was no option. I have set top boxes paid for and do not want to rent new ones, probably six at $20 each. Not sure what the next move is?

Grrrrr. NEVER again do I want to give Rogers or Bell my business! They constantly increase their prices. $0.03 here, $1.25 there, etc. Nobody wants to be bothered with the hassle over such small fee, so eventually they all add up to a significant amount. I know that Fido has always been a subsidiary of Rogers, but one thing I have truly appreciated is that each bill is the same amount - there are no surprises.

Also, Rogers and Bell both SUCK at customer service. If you do bother to call to ask why your bill went up, plan to be on hold and passed around for about 2 hours. I swear they just file their nails while you wait. Then they come back and say "since you're such a valued customer, we'll offer you this great deal...." and they freaking try to UPSELL even more!!! They have zero interest in what the customer actually wants. They run the market, so they think they can get away with it.

Again, I know Fido was a subsidiary, but it was much different. When I called, I spoke to human beings who actually acted human and were not reading from a script. I even had one tell me a semi-dirty joke, just because the conversation went that way (not a bad thing at all - it was like chatting with a friend!). Any time I had to call, they listened and responded according to what I needed. Not only did they not upsell, they offered ways I could save. Maybe that's not the bottom revenue line for Rogers, but my respect to the employees of Fido because that was how they kept my business and had me constantly promoting them to others.

I'm so upset to hear of this change. I really don't trust or want to be with Rogers. So long Furry-Fido - you've done great and proved yourself as "man's best friend". We'll miss you.

Hey @Hollieberry

That's not what we want to hear. We'll be happy to take a look at your account.

You also have the option to contact us va social media on Facebook, X, and Instagram.

We hope to chat with you soon!

Is this post true that they will force you to take the Ignite TV service?

Or are they going to look at other account options?

Unless they can provide a CONSISTENT internet fee (with NO hidden costs and occasional added charges) - I will leave.

Fido has achieved this reliability. Fido has provided excellent customer service. And even in the comments below it says rogers is putting customers on hold for too long.

This change is a big mistake.

Hey @Hollieberry,

You don't have to take Ignite TV if you don't wish to do so. Rogers can sell home internet only.

We appreciate your feedback! It's best to connect with Rogers directly to have a better idea on what the offers are: https://www.rogers.com/mobility/fido-migration

Hey @mikenic! Rogers has a wide range of plans and bundle options at different price points for customers to choose from based on their needs.  We would suggest getting in touch with them again to verify your options.

This email is legit?  Why can't Fido just send us all a new modem instead of making us call them first?

Hello AndrewFido,

  Welcome to the community!

Fido is no longer offering Home Internet services. They can't just send customers a new modem if they are not providing services anymore. If you call Fido, they will help you to migrate over to Rogers. While Fido may be owned by Rogers, they operate as separate entities.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

I decided to dump Fido Home Internet and move to another provider and not Rogers. Will keep their mobile.

Thank you for the info. Should we believe what Fido is saying online? I suspect that after the switch to Rogers, I will see a higher bill.

It is true, Fido will cease home internet in May and current customers can either move directly to Rogers or seek a different provider. Expect long delays on that 1-877 phone number. Currently I have been on hold for 1h09m and am still waiting... Be sure to keep your cellphone plugged into the charger when you call. Also note, when I asked at a Rogers store about the transition, the price they quoted me was much higher than what Fido is saying online.
