Unlock iPhone 6

Hi guys!

I've hit a snag. So I have a iPhone 6 that was given to me 3-4 years ago from an ex. I want to give it to my parents and get them up to speed with something a bit... *ahem* smarter.

It's locked to Fido but it's not reading any SIM cards. I reached out to the support chat and they said that I can't get it unlocked since I got it second hand, and that I should reach out to Apple directly.

Well Apple doesn't do unlocking... So I'm not too sure what to do next because it's a perfectly good phone!

  Welcome to the community!

  Are you sure that phone was working properly when you received it? Have you verified that the phone is locked (see here)? Assuming you've tried to use a Fido SIM card in the phone, it should have been able to function properly since the device is locked to Fido. Is it possible that the phone's IMEI was blacklisted (see here)? That could also explain why a Fido SIM might not work.
