I am leaving for a 2 week trip and a local number is much more convenient for me. in the country I am going to it is very inexpensive to get a local sim card and use it whilst there. Are there problems as to removing my(canadian) sim and using the new one I get abroad and then simply going back to the canadian one when I return?

Hello Dcarr,

  Welcome to the community!

There shouldn't be any issues with swapping SIMs when travelling. At this stage, all mobile phones sold in Canada need to be unlocked (see here). If your phone was purchased before December 2017, it may have been locked. However, the mobile providers would need to provide the unlock code for the device.

You might consider verifying that your phone is compatible with the local networks at your travel destination.

Another consideration would be to safely store your SIM. There have been many instances customers losing or misplacing their Fido SIMs and requiring its replacement.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers
