I have been a FIDO customer since 2021. I have a Motorola Edge 2021
I need to know how to find out if my SIM card is limiting my access. Since 2021, I have never seen the 4G or 5G network options on my phone.
I know the phone is capable of receiving 4G and 5G signals, but I only see the options LtE, 3g and 2G, but it never connects to 3g, I always see the signal as H+

Hi there @hpieri, fido doesn't have the 5g network and LTE is the 4g network. There isn't any network limiting going on. It sounds like you're getting 4g if you are seeing the LTE notification. I don't know if fido has any plans to bring 5g to the network.

Really? LTE+ is what I see. LTE used to be the worst one in the past, I thought 4G should be shown as "4G'. So, in this case, LTE is better than 3G... Thank you for sharing about 5G as well. I thought it was available!

Other than the device not connecting to certain networks, are you having issues with services (ie calls, messages, etc)? Was the device purchased or available from Fido? While the device appears to have compatible bands/frequencies for the networks (see here), if the device is not available from Fido, you should note that certain functions may not be supported (ie voLTE and/or Wifi-calling).

As Original_Lucy noted, Fido does not currently offer 5G services (see here). The different symbols used on devices can vary. Some phones use the network type (ie 3G, 4G, etc) while other devices use the data protocol denotion (ie H, H+, LTE, etc). In addition, some devices might use a mixture of the two. The H+ symbol you note (aka HSPA+) is the evolved data protocol used on the 3G network. The evolution of high speed packet access (HSPA+) is technically capable of 4G speeds. Thats why the US used to refer to H+ as '4G'. Confusing, I know!
I mentioned that if the device was not available from Fido, voice-over-LTE (voLTE) won't likely be supported. Without voLTE, all calls (and possibly SMS/MMS) would necessarily transmit via the 3G networks. That could be a reason you note that you always see your device connected to that network (H+).
On the other hand, if voLTE is supported on that device connecting to H+ could be a result of your location relative to the surrounding cellular towers. The different bands/frequencies vary in their characteristics (see image here). It's possible the 4G signals could not reach your phone at those times. You can get an idea of your area towers here.
Yes, LTE is generally thought to be better than 3G. In your case, since it shows LTE+, that would refer to advanced LTE. Instead of only using one LTE band/frequency to transmit data, it aggregates multiple LTE bands/frequencies to increase potential data speeds.

Hi Cawtau. The device was bought at Fido. My concern is that while all my friend's devices can see 3G, 4G or 5G. and in my one I see "LTE".
Someone above told that in Fido, LTE = 4G, so looks like it is all good, except because the device is able to connect by 5G and looks like in my area it is not possible,

Yes, that is correct. Long-term evolution (LTE) is a 4G wireless standard. Apologies if my earlier reply did not clarify or suggested otherwise .
As mentioned above, Fido does not currently offer 5G services. Even if there were 5G towers in your area, your Fido line would not be able to access that network. Does your friend also use Fido? I am not aware of any Fido customer with 5G showing on their device.
