Fido network

Hello I'm planning to travel to Hong Kong in November and probably buying a Galaxy S3 there. But i heard on the internet that they have different frequencies or something like that. I'm just wondering if HK s3 will work when I come back with it, since they don't lock phones there

I know this is an old post but I thought I would provide some up-to-date information in case anyone else were to come across this post with a similar inquiry.

In order to use an unlocked device with Fido, your device must be compatible with the Fido network, which uses GSM, UMTS, HSPA and HSPA+ at 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. To access LTE network, the phone must be compatible with:

• • 700 MHz on Band 17;
  • 1700/2100 MHz on Band 4;
  • 2600 MHz on Band 7.

  How to find this information? Refer to the manufacturer's official website.

  If you are unsure of how to check the frequencies your device supports, try the manufacturer's official website and search for the specifications for your particular phone/smartphone model.

From what I have been able to find on the Japanese variants of the Samsing Galaxy S3, it appears that the device would work on the Fido network, however, the device would only have access to the 2G network due to the fact that both variants sold in Japan are not compatible with any of the frequencies that Fido uses for 3G or for LTE.

I guess as long as the phone there supports the GSM/HSPA frequencies that Canadian carriers are on, you should be fine.  I only know that Japan uses different frequency.
