Good day!
I had husband certified pre-owned Samsung phone on a plan sometime August 2024. This weekend, we noticed, the battery was 80ish% but dropped inmmediately to 7% after playing few video, then went black. When we charged, the counter was still around 80ish%. Called Fido who referred me to Samsung for warrantry. Samsung said that it out of warratnty as it was purcased to them more than a year. Called Fido again where a very patient and great CSR was able to walked me through and checked policy that it is still under warranty i.e. phone swap so long as no physical damage.
When I removed the unit from case protector and charge to do file back up, I noticed back panel started to bulge. I googled and read that caused mught be bloated battery. I can say for sure this is not due to misuse since I am very particular not to overcharge the phone, etc. Having said, if I have to return the phone, should the bulging be considered as physical damage or factory defect?
Appreciate the response. The phone is relatively new (August 2024 purchased from Fido). We always get certified pre-owned from Fido but this is the first time this happened. Thank you in advance.

Hello Aniway,
Welcome to the community!
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your husband's phone. You should note the forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We would not be in any position to access whether the device issue is considered physical damage or not.
That said, there can be an number of reasons why a battery may bulge, including both physcial damage and manufacturer defect (see here and here etc). Only Fido would be able to determine whether you are eligible to exchange the phone for a new device.
Hope this helps 😀
Cheers
