hello,

Ive been doing quite a bit of research and at this point Im still not sure about the following.

Will an international version of Nokia Lumia 920 will work with FIdo LTE?

The bands of the Nokia lumia thats being sold unlocked online are: LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600 / 900 / 2100

Do all of these bands have to match fido's lte bands? or 2100 is enough?

thank you

Which phone will work best on LTE fido ?

Hello Jagraj,

  Welcome to the community!

  Firstly, from the specifications you provide for the Sprint version of the Note 5, it appears as though there are two versions listed:

A: GSM: GSM850, GSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900;

4G TDD LTE: B41(2500)
...

  Both phones (A and B) have all of the compatible bands/frequencies for 2G and '3G'.

  With regards to LTE, both phones would have at least one compatible band/frequency, band 4 (AWS - Advanced Wireless Services, 1700/2100 MHz). Band 12 (700 MHz) has been deployed in some provinces so it may be available to you depending on your location (see here). You can verify the compatible bands/frequencies here

  The T-Mobile phone would also have all of the compatible bands/frequencies for 2G and '3G'.

  With regards to LTE, this phone would have at least two compatible bands/frequencies, band 4 (AWS) and band 7 (2600 MHz). Again, the availability of band 12 would depend on your location.

  So, assuming both phones are unlocked, which phone will work best for LTE on Fido? SM-N920P or SM-N920T? Judging by the specifications you provided, the T-Mobile version of the phone would be the better option. Since coverage depends on the bands/frequencies of the surrounding towers, having the additional compatible band/frequency would increase the likelihood of coverage.

  That said, you might want to verify the specifications you provided for those phone versions. According to GSMArena, the SM-N920P (Sprint) would have *all of the compatible bands/frequencies for LTE. (*except for the recently added band 12). If true, then the Sprint version might be the better option for LTE on Fido.

Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers

Only the T Mobile phone has one compatible LTE band B7(2600)

This is what you need for LTE

  • 700 MHz on Band 17;
  • 1700/2100 MHz on Band 4;
  • 2600 MHz on Band 7.

Looking at the layout of wording it appears to be the ones from Moto X Pure Edition (sold unlocked in the US).  I know - because I have one.

The '†' footnote reads: "† Band coverage varies by carrier."

Hey everyone,

I think Cawtau's post Will my phone work on the Fido network might answer all your questions.

And thanks @Cawtau!

Hi there kcfive!

Yes, that phone is completely compatible with our network Wink

Hello 74sickness,

  Welcome to the forums!

  According to those specifications, that phone has both of the compatible bands/frequencies for '3G' while only has one compatible band for 2G. With regards to LTE, that phone also only has one compatible band/frequency, band 7 (2600 MHz). You can verify the compatible bands/frequencies here. The caveat when a phone does not have all of the compatible bands/frequencies is that while it will work on the networks, coverage would depend on the bands/frequencies of the surrounding towers. For example, @edge05 posted above that Manitoba does not appear to have any 2600 MHz towers.

  Assuming you are in an area of coverage, verify that you are using the correct APN. For LTE, it should be ltemobile.apn You can verify those settings here and here.

  Are you able to get data at all? 3G or 4G or even 2G? You might also consider turning your roaming on. Even though the phone would technically not be roaming while on the Fido networks, some international phones think they are roaming when they are away from their origin countries. You will not be charged roaming while using a Fido SIM on the Fido networks.

  Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers

im still totally confused on why rogers/fido would rely on sask-tels networks if they werent going to offer 2600mhz... does sask-tel not own any rights to that frequency?  and if rogers/fido do, why arent they partnering it up on the towers? then again, why is there no provider in manitoba & saskatchewan offering 2600mhz?

Hello Edge05,

  I am not aware that Fido/Rogers is using SaskTel's network in Manitoba. According to that cell tower site, there does not appear to be any SaskTel towers in Manitoba. Where did you get that information?

  Nevertheless, even if Fido/Rogers is using the SaskTel network in some areas, their 2600 MHz towers would not be an option for Fido/Rogers customers. SaskTel uses that frequency on band 38 which is not compatible with Fido/Rogers' band 7. Firstly, band 38 is TDD (Time Division Duplex) while band 7 is FDD (Frequency Division Duplex). That is, TDD uses a single set of frequencies for upload and download where as FDD uses two separate frequencies, one for upload and the other for download.

  In addition, the bands refer to a specific frequency range within the broader frequency label. For example, band 7 refers to uplink frequencies of 2500 – 2570 and downlink frequencies of 2620 – 2690. On the other hand, band 38 refers to frequencies of 2570 – 2620. They both fall under the broader 2600 MHz frequency, but as you can see, the frequencies do not overlap.

  In our PMs, I alluded to a possible reason why there is no band 7 or band 17 in your areas. Originally, those bands were brought in as additional bandwidth frequencies and not meant as stand alone bands. It is likely that in certain areas band 4 is sufficient and do not require additional bandwidth. I do understand, however, that as more and more international phones are being used on the networks, those bands are becoming increasing used as stand alone bands.

  Hope this helps Smiley

Cheers

Hey xtrip!

Fido's LTE network uses the 2100 and 2600 MHz frequencies (mostly 2600 MHz).

From the information you have provided us with, it does seem like the phone will be compatible with our LTE network.

I hope this helps Smiley

Hello FidoJudhy,

I have a question as well. I purchased Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915FY in Europe and using it here in Canada. In tech spec it says:
4G bands: LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 20) - SM-N915FY
Is that means that my phone is compatible with Fido LTE? On my phone screen I always see 4G logo when using data.

Thank you,

FidoMatt

What speeds do you get? We have seen unlocked phones showing 4G when actually on LTE. Also, are you sure the right APN is set? You can find details on this here.

Our most widely used band is band 4 and we have some towers on band 7 although much less then 4.

Let us know of the speeds you are getting, this will help us say if you get LTE.

Do you know anything about AWS?

According to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks

Rogers/FIDO is running AWS. If the phone doesnt have AWS, will it still run LTE speeds?

Hello:

 I have a phone with supporting following frequency:

TD-LTE Band38/39/40

FDD LTE Band7/3

TD-SCDMA Band34/39

WCDMA Band1/2/5

GSM Band2/3/8

Q1: Does it allow to work on Fido network??

Also, I saw from the fido website: http://www.fido.ca/web/content/phonewarranty/configure_unlocked_device_guide

It says that:

To access LTE network, the phone must be compatible with:
700 MHz on Band 17;
1700/2100 MHz on Band 4;
2600 MHz on Band 7.

Q2: For this info that Fido provides, should my phone work on Fido LTE with both Band 17,4 and 7 or just work with any one of them?

Hi Gavin_ZJE!

Welcome to the Community Smiley

We operate on different frequencies in Canada. Your phone will have access to LTE when within the Band7 coverage.

I hope this answers!

Hi All!

I think I know the answer to this one, but I'm interested in the LG G4 Beat H735T model from HK.

The specs are as follows:

2G - 850/900/1800/1900MHz

3G - 850/900/1900/2100MHz

4G - 2100(B1) / 1800(B3) / 850(B5) / 2600(B7) / 900(B8) MHz

Since Fido is with the 2600 Band 7 frequency, I think this phone would work here, am I correct?

Thanks for your help!

Hello AM21,

  You are correct. According to those specifications, that phone does have one of the three compatible LTE bands/frequencies so it should 'work' on the LTE network. However, you should also note that it would depend on the bands/frequencies of the surrounding towers. Band 7 (2600MHz) isn't used in all of the LTE towers. You should try to verify whether the towers in your area(s) also use that band.

  Also, it appears that the phone has all of the compatible 2G and '3G' bands/frequencies.

Hope this helps Smiley
