I just read on another chat board that fido and rogers are cancelling GSM services in 2020

is this true? i use arduino and GSM 800 IOT devices (mostly for security systems) to contact me if an event occurs. if GSM goes down that i have to find something else before then.

  Welcome to the community!

  Yes, it is true that Fido/Rogers plans to fully decommission the GSM network by December 31st, 2020 (see here). Initially, they had only intended to support its 2G GSM network until 2018, but I think they extended the deadline because there are many legacy devices still using the service.
