“WANG" not allowed as a valid last name

Hi there,

I recently moved my service from Rogers to Fido.  I am puzzled to find out that "WANG" is somehow not accepted as a valid last name for call display. WAN or WANGG would work.  I tried a couple solution specialists and they also couldn't tell me why.

Given "WANG" is a popular Chinese last name and it is accepted by Rogers. Does anyone on this board know why Fido deems it unacceptable? And if I were to appeal this restriction, what shall I do?

Thanks.

Hi Phillipe,

Thank you for the helpful response and also learnt something new. I will reply to your PM.

Hey @Ludwig! Philippe here. Welcome to the community. Smiley

To explain, user names should represent a real person and cannot include or be:

  • Private or Confidential
  • First name without last name
  • Offensive nickname
  • Symbols including accents (&, # etc.) in the name field (as the customer will possibly experience unwanted changes in the presentation of their name for Name Display)
  • Titles

In your case, Wang, although perfectly acceptable in Chinese, is actually a slang term for male genetilia in English, which is why it's restricted. As a result, I'll send you a PM from the community to manually change it for you.

Talk to you soon!
