Voice mail problems

I recently got a new alcotel 3 flip top phone.  when I press and hold the #1  it prompts me to enter my cell phone number which I did.  Then it says sorry that number is not valid.  Does this mean I don't have voice mail on my plan?

You will need to enter the voicemail retrieval number and not your phone number try this number +15877370210.

To view your voicemail, go to the Contacts screen and select Speed Dial. Then, select Voice Mail > Change Voice Mail Number, and then you can edit the voicemail number. I'm not sure it's the correct way but it should be similar.
