I brought an unlocked phone to Fido. Can they re-lock my phone onto their network?

Hello Mcrawley27,

  Welcome to the community!

You noted that you brought your unlocked device to Fido. I assume that your device wasn't originally locked to Fido. If that was the case, then Fido cannot lock your phone to their network. As mentioned above, the Canadian mobile providers are not allowed to lock phones to their networks anymore as per the Wireless Code.

That said, depending on the phone model and network on which the device was originally locked, a factory reset of the device may inadvertantly re-lock the device to the original provider. If that has happened, you would likely need to contact the original provider to obtain the unlock code. Alternatively, there are third-party services which provide unlock codes for a fee.

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

Hi @mcrawley27,

Welcome to the Fido community!

As of December 1-2017 all phones purchased after that date comes unlocked and carriers are not allowed to lock phones anymore.
