Totally hopeless trying to pay FIDO from Australia

When I arrived in Australia I had no idea that I needed to turn off roaming on my phone or I would get charged $15 per day so needless to say every time I stepped out of a WiFi zone and used my phone to make even one text call I was charged a number of $15 fees for a few days as well my regular monthly payment was not accepted either so here I am owing $216!!  Meanwhile I am purplexed about getting $216  requests - literally being hounded daily and threatened with having my service cut off!   I was in a remote part of Australila where they only have weak WiFi so it was really frustrating.  FINALLY I was able to pay the bill but am still being hounded inspite of sending a confirmation number of the bank confirmation. through some auto request they sent on my phone.  BUT, I got  a crazy message from FIDO saying "there is something wrong that is their fault " and the payment was Not accepted.    There is no way to contact FIDO by e-mail;  their 1-888 number does NOT WORK from Australila.... so I hope that the payment I sent at least 4 days ago gets to them soon or they plan on cutting my phone off in two weeks!  I have literally never had a problem with my bills in my life (with one exception being Fido 4 years ago) so it is very disturbing not to be able to communitcate with them from overseas...    Same thing happened 4 years ago when I was in France!!  Sorry to be airing this publicly but what else am I to do???

Hello Suzannahmilburn,

  Welcome to the community!

Sorry to hear of your situation. In addition to what was mentioned by FidoLony below:

While it is true that most toll-free numbers do not work outside of their designated areas, Fido does offer a From Abroad number which can be accessed from outside of Canada (see here).

Hope this helps 😀

Cheers

Hey @suzannahmilburn,

Sorry to read about this!

When it comes to Fido Roam, the fee is automatically billed if any usage is detected on your line. This counts for calls, text and data. You also should get a welcome SMS that explains these charges as well!

That said, we can understand with the limitations of being outside of the country it can be harder to call in.

In that case, we suggest you message us directly on our socials which you can find links here so we can help you with the payment situation!
