Hello Sangrilala,

Happy Holidays and Welcome to the Community!

Sorry to hear of your situation. Provided you qualify for your own account, it should be possible to take ownership of your line from your ex. However, as previously mentioned, it is not possible to transfer the responsibility of a financed device. Since the transfer of wireless services to another Fido account would cancel the Payment Program agreement, the balance on the device would be charged on your next bill (see here).

You can find additional information regarding transfer of responsibility (TOR) here.

Hope this helps ☃️

Cheers

Hello @Sangrilala,

Welcome to the community!

While it is true you can do a transfer of responsibility but if it is currently under a finance agreement the agreement will need to be cancelled and paid off in full before the transfer can be done as they can not transfer financing to someone else.

This is the only thing I can see will prevent the transfer from happening.

What if it's under my phone number but her account ? My mother is not able to make payments for her and my father's phone but I am still able to make payments for mine.

I want to detach the phone from her account so I can still make payments without it being cut off. Their financial responsibility is not my fault and I shouldn't have to be penalized for THEM not being able to pay for their phone line.

Hello Qwesley14,

Welcome to the community!

Firstly, you should note these forums are community-driven and not intended as a venue for customer services. We do not have access to customers' accounts.

As mentioned, if you would like to take over your line, that would still be a Transfer of Responsibility (TOR) since your line is on your mother's account. You should note that you would need to open your own account at the time of transfer and that a credit evaluation would likely be needed. In addition, it should be noted that there would be a fee for the transfer (see here).

Furthermore, you should also note that if you are currently financing a device, the remaining balance for the device would be required as the financing would not transfer:

I understand you may feel like you are being penalised for having to pay the outstanding balance for the device. Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to circumvent the cancellation of your Payment Program agreement due to a transfer of services to another account.

If you wished to proceed, your mother would first need to contact customer service and notify them of your intent to transfer the responsibility of your line. You would also need to contact customer service and notify them of your intent to take responsibility for the line and open the account. She would then need to contact them to complete the transfer.

Hope this helps 😀
