Hi there @trigail , you can absolutely change your phone number and get a new number. You can do that at Fido.ca, and sign into your account. Here's the instructions from another thread See here
Ordering a new SIM does have a charge I believe. If You do it online you won't be charged for the new number. Hope that helps, cheers
