How to make phone ring longer (or temporarily disable voicemail)?

There are times when one really NEEDS to take a call and not let it go to voicemail. However, depending on the situation sometimes I can't get to/pick up the phone quickly enough.

Is there a way to either set the phone to ring longer, or to disable the voicemail temporarily? iPhone, but wondering about Android, too.

From doing a net search it sounds like something addressed by the server, rather than the phone itself.

Welcome to the community!

  I believe changing the number of rings can only be done by customer service (see here). Another community member posted a ring code you might try, however, that method doesn't appear to work for everyone. If that method doesn't work, the change would have to be done by customer service. In addition, they can also be contacted via Live Chat, Facebook, or Twitter. Those methods can be accessed via the contact page posted above.
