I've never had a phone that uses wifi, and I have no data in my plan so I'm a little confused. I can connect to my home wifi no problem, so if I start using my browser I won't be charged right? What about the facebook or twitter apps, can I use those with wifi without being charged too?

Hello aj2011,
You are absolutely right.
If you connect to your home WiFi network, you are basically using the internet service from your home internet service provider and not from Fido. You would therefore not be charged for it.
You will also be able to use any applications (excluding the instant messaging or the MobileMail applications) using your WiFi connection.
I hope this helps!
