not enough space in the icloud to backup my new phone

i just got a new iphone  5s and it has never backed up to the cloud..it tries but fails and says there isnt enough space to do it..when i look at the storage settings it has 2 iphones under backups;  do i delete the old phone now?so that this one will back up?

You have basically two choices. Open some space on your iCloud acct by deleting the old backups from the old phone or pay Apple for more storage.
