Wireless Hotspot with Android

Hi everyone!

I am having a problem in that my phone works (can make/receive calls, send/receive texts, access the internet, etc), however, I just cannot seem to get the Wireless Hotspot feature to work.  This is a new phone (I had a Motorola Milestone, which I upgraded with a Motorola XT860, aka the Milestone 3, that has been unlocked from Bell).  The hotspot feature worked flawlessly with the old phone, which is why I'm kind of confused.

What happens is that I am able to create the hotspot, and my computers are able to connect to it and obtain a legit IP address, but they are unable to actually send/receive any data through the connection!  I'm totally baffled.

Has anyone else got the hotspot feature to work with an unlocked Andoird phone?  What configurations did you set?

Any advice or tips about what to look into would be extremely appreciated!

I had something similar with my Motorola XT910. We see the computer connected, we see a "legit" ip addresse. However, the IP addresse is the one "not released" from the previous connection. Simply connect your laptop to your hotspot and then do an ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew and it should work. Hope this help! Smiley

Thanks or the reply.  Unfortuantely, this doesn't seem to solve the problem (if I release and renew the IP, the computer gets the same IP address each time and none work).

Are there any specific Fido settings I need to set to get this to work?

Hi mattsigal,

Here are the APN settings for tethering:

Tethering:

Name: Tethering

APN type: tethering

APN: fido.isp.apn

-Everything else is <not set>

You can find all of our APN settings on this thread.

Hopefully this helps!

Shame for FIDO! I have spent hours to fix this issue on one new FIDO HTC phone

Hi dandan,

Sorry to hear that. What seems to be the issue?

Unless you add DUN to the list of APN types, tethering won't work!!!
