Sim doesn't allow me to send any text messages?

Hey guys originally i thought that my dad's LG gossip had a problem that wouldn't allow me to send text messages, but when my girlfriend had two spare phones lying around in her house i decided that i should just use any one of those phone for the time being. However, i tried sending a random text message but it wouldnt allow me saying that it had failed so I was curious would i need to go to a local fido store and have my Sim card replaced?
