How do I enlarge pictures sent by MMS on an Android?

On the Iphone, you would pinch and move your fingers out to enlarge picture.  I can't seem to get this to work on my phone.  I had same picture sent to my phone and to an Iphone, Iphone could enlarge the same picture but Samsung could not.

If this was sent to you via MMS you need to first press and hold the picture for a few seconds to save it to your gallery than which will allow you to pitch and zoom ( but only in your gallary)
