If this was sent to you via MMS you need to first press and hold the picture for a few seconds to save it to your gallery than which will allow you to pitch and zoom ( but only in your gallary)

I have noticed a weak wifi connection on my Nexus S glade to hear its not just my phone. Must likley it just needs a softwareupdate to fix the issue unless you have a older router? than can be the issue aswell.
