Will send text message when service is available

I was having a text conversation with a friend. I tried to reply to a message and it stated "cannot send message. Will send when service is available." I was able to fix the problem by restarting my phone. Just wondering why this would happen in the middle of a conversation.  Has anyone seen this before?

  Welcome to the community!

  It sounds like your phone temporarily lost connection to the cellular towers. If you were moving during your conversation, you could have moved outside of cellular coverage. There could also be a number of reasons why it might have happened. Restarting your phone would have reconnected your phone to the cellular towers. Has it happend again?
