Why do I have phone number from city no where near me?

I live in Vancouver area and I got my phone number about a month ago.

Friend in Vancouver told me he got LD charges for calling me because my phone number is Chilliwack, British Columbia number.

I looked it up and it's true, I have Chilliwack number. 604-791-xxxx

I don't get charge for LD because I have Canada wide calling, so I had no idea.

Is it true my friend got LD charge because of me?

How did I get Chilliwack number?  I did not go all the way to Chiliwack to open Fido account...

Hey @ckk77,

Real sorry that you were assigned a number from a different area and that your friend experienced long distance charges

I honestly can't tell how that might've happened, but rest assured that it's definitely possible to change your phone number to a Vancouver one. 

You can make the change yourself on your online account under Services > Mobile > Change my phone number. 

Make sure to check out our Community's Library to learn all about what you need to know in regards to the number change.

Back in the old days, I had to pay for fee if I wanted my phone number changed...

The change is free if you do it yourself on My Account  

If we do it for you, a $35 fee is applicable.
