When is 5G coming to Fido? Both of the Virgin, Koodo even Public has access now. I know its speed limited but its to have access to the 3500mhz frequency which has a lot more capacity. Rogers has this support for the main brand but still not on Fido.
I have an offer from Bell for $55/120GB, same price I'm paying fido for 70gb (50gb+20gb bonus).
If Fido doesn't offer some new 5G plans with competitive pricing, i'll be leaving after only 1 year.
Also - why isn't there an option in the self serve plan selection to choose something less costly than what your current plan is? I myself don't use as much data in the winter months as I do in summer, and there is no way to downgrade to save money. There used to be lower plans, even with much less data, but they existed. Now everything is $55 for me nothing lower. I only get offers that cost more. Insulting.

As you have stated, Fido had to come up with a covinceable argument as to why they are not offering 5G. Advancing the LTE networks??? Here are the facts as told to me by a former Fido network engineer. Believe me, this is the factual truth. When Rogers took over the Fido network, all if the Fido towers were brought on to the Rogers network. Absolutey yes, the quality of the signal increades vastly! Now here is the kicker. The 5G capability for Fido customers existed only for seconds, until Rogers turned it OFF! I invite any Rogers or Fido employee to tell me i am incorrect, but they won't, because I speak the gospel truth. The only way that 5G will get turned on for Fido customers, is when every other single carrier offers it and Rogers has no choice but to " catch up " my suggestion??? Simply leave the Rogers group of companies. Only then will Roger smarten up! Oh, BTW, Fido talks about caring for their dedicated customers??? Total garbage. Ive been with Fido well before they existed. I was a Microsell custoner with now more than 20 years of dedication. Not even a call or an email to celebrate my 20 year mark. Just saying. Fido corporate office??? Look up my name. You can contact me at any time. Lol, as if that will ever happen

I too have been a customer from the Microcell days prior to the Rogers Communications aquisition. And the unlimited plan get rid of your home phone strategic move prior to the aquisition. I've been a loyal customer for over 25 years. I've received no special phone call or email etither. I've been under the assumption that all these carriers get some sort of pat on the back for the amount of new customers and/or new contracts they acquire. Which is why it appears that they don't care too much about customer longevity. However, I stick around because their service and value has always been good. If I have to sacrifice having 5g to save a few bucks than I am okay with it.

Hello YlwRandy,
I understand people are eager to avail of 5G. To clarify, though:

I'm not sure whether that statment is accurate. 5G services use a separate network which uses different bands/frequencies from the LTE or WCDMA/UMTS ('3G') networks (see here). Fido customers would not have access to the bands/frequencies of the 5G network. We would not have had any access to that network as Fido customers.
Other than customers want it, why is it necessary for Fido to offer 5G services? People have noted that they aren't competitive by not offering it. As I have mentioned in other posts, being competitive does not necessarily mean having to match the other providers. Sometimes, it means offering something the other providers do not. Until recently, Fido has offered the 5 Hours of Unlimited Data as well as Fido Xtra which are not available from the other providers (see here). That said, the Fido Xtra program has now ended.
In addition, Fido (Rogers) allows for Wifi-calling usage outside of Canada (roaming fees may incur). Neither Bell nor Telus (or their subsidiaries) allow such usage outside of Canada.
People have also compared the 5G roll-out to that of the LTE network. However, there is a difference between the two situations. The WCDMA (UMTS) or '3G' network was handling most of the call and some data traffic on one or two frequencies for all of Rogers branded customers. Even if all Rogers customers used LTE for data, all their calls would still have been routed through the '3G' network because voice-over-LTE (voLTE) hadn't been introduced yet (announced 2015; see here). All Rogers calls & all of Fido's data and calls & all of Chatr's data and calls & all of the other MNVO data and calls would have made the '3G' network practically unusable, even for calls. Opening Fido customers up to LTE at that time freed some of that burden on the '3G' network. The situation is different now as LTE is much more capable than WCDMA/UMTS.
I do not know if, or when, Fido might offer 5G services. It's possible Fido may have plans to introduce some other feature or service which could replace the Fido Xtra program. However, that would be entirely speculation. Unfortunately, no one here would know about future plan features. Even if there were individuals who are privy to that information, they would not be able to discuss such matters until they are officially announced. Any new offerings would be made public on Fido.ca.
Customers need to choose what features are important for themselves. Some customers may want access to 5G services, while others might prefer the 5 hours of extra data each month. Personally, I like being able to avail of Wifi-calling abroad.
Cheers

Good morning @MK78 fido doesn't have any immediate plans to add 5g. There are numerous threads on the forum talking about it. If you look through some of the latest replies, you'll find the explanation.

The explanation given to some of those posts is laughable, such as "Fido continues to invest in LTE network".
Fido doesn't invest anything. Rogers builds the network. The LTE network is built. Its not being expanded in the vast majority of the population centres. Rogers is building out 5G, not LTE now.
I'm good as gone when black friday deals come up from the competition.
