WhatsApp calling while abroad

Hi, I used WhatsApp calling while I was abroad and didn't have data roaming on. Infact, I had the local sim from the country inserted in my phone. However, I got charged extra $112 due to calls I made via WhatsApp (since I didn't even have the sin inserted regular phone line wasn't possible). Any idea what's happening ?

Welcome to the community

If your SIM card is not in your phone, it is not possible for us to charge you for usage as we would have no way of knowing what was used on your phone.  Also, calls placed through WhatsApp wouldn't show as calls on our side.  They would count as data usage if you're not on wifi, but, once again, that would only happen if your SIM card is in your phone.
