Overcharged / International call on WhatsApp

Hello Fido,

I got charged over $40 dollars for "dialling" to Mexico, when I actually did a WhatsApp call and used WiFi. According to their website WhatsApp lets you call your friends and family using Whats App for free.

Would someone be able to help me figure out why I got charged +$40 for this call.

Thanks in advance.

Hello @schaffler36,

Welcome to the community!

I would suggest first check your phone's call history and see if the calls appear in your call history list.

I have heard of this happening before and rest assure a cellular company can not divert calls from an app and if you are using a third party app and got billed then it could very well be that the app did not work as intended and there is not much the cellular company can do if the call went through their network.

@KAPABLE-K is correct! When this happens, it can be that the app malfunctioned and the call did go through the Fido network.

As it's a third party app, it's not something we can support on our end, and there is a possibility it doesn't function as intended.
