I believe if you are still in a contract, this would be classified as early cancellation, which is subject to the ECF and possibly a DECF. If you are contract-free, absolutely you can switch your account to prepaid for free. Call Customer Service to verify; I'm not 100% sure, but that is what makes sense to me.
