waiting for a return modem package since I canceled my internet

Hi I have been waiting for a return package for my modem since I canceled my internet on Sept 30. Until now, nothing came and I just found out that I got billed for a modem rental more than a month since I cancelled my account. Clearly not a fault on my part. Sounds wrong to me. How can I get this fixed? Last thing I want to see  is get billed month after month and worse I get late return penalty that I have read on other posts for $250. Frustrating that I still have to contact you even after cancellation.

If the modme is not returned within 30 days, the modem would be charged. That said, it can be removed as long as the modem is returned. 😊
