I just saw this post and I thought I'd provide some updated information in case anyone else comes across this and has a similar inquiry. 
Now, if you are upgrading your phone for a new Fido phone, and the sim card that you currently use in your existing phone is incompatible with the new device, then you will be provided a new, compatible, sim card free of charge during the upgrade.
