iPhone 2g pay as you go no data voicemail setup

I've got an original iphone that is unlocked with a pay as you go plan, no data plan.  According to Fido's instructions you can press 1 on the keypad and that will let you setup the voicemail, but that is not working for me.  I do have data disabled in an APN.  I'm under the impression you can only setup voicemail on the phone the plan is on.

Hey jonr!

Data does not need to be on for you to be able to set up your voicemail on a prepaid account.

I would suggest that you call cusomter service and:

- Verify that the voicemail service is indeed active. Although it is included with all prepaid accounts, it is sometimes not added to your services as it has to be done manually.
- Ask for your voicemail retrieval number. It is possible that the wrong retrieval number is programmed within your phone. You may program it manually by dialing *5005*86*+1-XXX-XXX-XXXX# on your device.
