Voicemail problem

I recently switched from an Android phone and upgraded to an iPhone XS. 

All my contacts were transferred to the new SIM card but when I call voicemail and enter my 10 digit number it tells me the number is not valid.

 I had no problems with my old phone accessing my voicemail.

When I call my number from another cell phone it just rings and there is no "leave a voicemail" message.

Any ideas on what has to be done ? 
I've tried calling the special numbers listed on the Fido site with no luck.
