Unlocked smartphone, will data work

So I'm planning on getting a new phone and dont like Fidos selection so Im going to get one somewhere else. My question is will I be able to use my data on it,  my friend has tried to use a iPhone with her data plan but was not able to, does FIdo have some restrictions. Im currently on the $25 data plan and would like to still be able to go on the internet and so on.

Wow this is why I do not like Fido, how am I suppose to support this company when no one gives me an answer...

I'm not sure what the problem is? lots of people I know use unlocked phones on fido and use data. you just need to enter the data settings yourself cus not many people will be familiar with where to imput them on phones they are not familiar with,
