I have no ringtone or alerts. Volume is up and tones have been picked. Can't figure it out

Has to be asked: is your silent switch set to silect? Does music/video play?
I have music and video. The only thing I have turned on vibrate on silent because that's the only way to get notified of anything.
And your silent switch?
