It could be an issue with the phone and your switching to Fido could just be a coincidence, I would suggest you check to make sure the SIM card is seated properly, remove and inspect it then put it back in all while the device is off, you can also try doing a factory reset and if the problems still exist I would suggest reaching out to Samsung.
