Improper information pamphlet

I purchased a Samsung galaxy Z flip 6 phone from Fido/Rogers on 12/08/2024. On 27/11/2024 the phone stopped working. At the time of purchase I was offered your service plan but denied it due to not being informed how important it was to have! According to the pamphlet that came with the phone, all i had to do for the manufacturers warranty was to

bring the phone into the closest Fido/rogers store, and Fido/rogers.would send the phone to the manufacturer for repair. It also stated that a Loaner phone would be offered while mine was in for repair. I had to drive 2 hours one way to get to a Fido/Rogers location, only to be denied this service because I did not take out the extra cost service plan. Nowhere in the Fido pamphlet does it mention that I needed the service plan, in order to take advantage of the manufacturer warranty service mentioned in the pamphlet by Fido. I then asked to pay off the phone to then purchase a new phone only to be told I would have to pay the original phone cost (over $1700), and not the discounted amount that I agreed to pay for the phone. I left the store extremely disappointed, drove another 2 hrs hours home, and have since sent the phone to Samsung for repair. I have roughly 17 months left on my obligations to Fido/Rogers and at the end of contract I will be leaving Fido/Rogers for a different carrier. I will be posting this letter to the Fido complaint page to warn others

  Welcome to the community!

 

  Sorry to hear of your situation. Unfortunately, I cannot speak as to what may or may not be mentioned in that pamphlet you received nor whether any changes were made to the courtesy phone policy. Fido did offer loaner phones for device repair (see here). However, even when they did offer the use of a loaner device, availability of those devices was not necessarily guaranteed (see here). That said, both of those posts are quite old and there may be a new policy requiring device protection.

  You should still be able to avail of the manufacturers' warranty without having to opt for device protection.

  With many of the device offers, Fido does not actually discount the cost of the device. Rather, they provide a monthly credit to off-set the device cost. That monthly credit is applied to the bill and not device financing cost. The device cost shown on the website was calcuated after bill credit

 

  It would be important to note that the monthy financing fee does not actually change, though. If you choose to end the contract early, you would still be required to pay the total remaining balance of the device. That is, the remaining balance would be $ x remaining number of months, not $-credit x remaining months as the remaining monthly credits would no longer apply.
